SUMMARY:Women For Freedom in Jazz - Namritha Nori\, Alba Nabulsi
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1790606625378{margin-top: 2.5em !important;}” el_class=”thebandits”] \n\nNamritha Nori\nvocals\nAlba Nabulsi\nreading\nAlvise Seggi\ncello\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1790606598731{margin-top: 2.5em !important;}”] \n\nOn October 7th\, bringing a musician and a contemporary author together to Aquarius.\nThrough the voice and music of Namritha Nori—an Italian-Indian artist and musician living between Venice and Istanbul\, and Lebanese by adoption—and the storytelling of Alba Nabulsi—an Italian-Palestinian journalist\, writer\, and curator—we will immerse ourselves in an intimate and powerful narrative of roots\, family memories\, and belonging. This echoes the history of an entire people\, the Palestinians\, where the archive goes beyond merely preserving memories to become a witness to new Selves and a collective identity beyond geographical borders.\nAccompanying Namritha and Alba will be the notes and bow of Alvise Seggi on the cello.\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

The choice to sing in dialect is not out of provincialism\, but rather an artistic decision: the accent and cadence of the lagoon’s idiom naturally blend with the syncopated rhythms of Latin American music. In short\, “South American becomes Venetian.” \nDriven by this concept\, they contaminate the dialect with Spanish\, venturing into translations that are not just linguistic\, but deeply cultural. Through this process\, a musical magic unfolds\, creating a dialogue between two distant universes. \nThroughout their forty-year career\, Batisto Coco has built a rich body of work. They unearth rare idioms still alive in the collective memory\, highlight specific traits of the Venetian identity\, and tell stories ranging from local bàcari (taverns) being sold to Chinese entrepreneurs to the never-ending saga of the MOSE flood barriers. They have even grafted salsa music onto 20th-century classical and Baroque music. \nThrough their live shows\, they pay homage to Venice’s sixteen centuries of history (a classic love-hate relationship)—an age the Serenissima still carries with grace and elegance\, despite everything.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1765881108566{margin-top: 2.5em !important;}”] \n\n\n\nAdmission subject to availability. SUMMARY:FRANCESCA BERTAZZO HART: tribute to Emily Dickinson
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1788354169967{margin-top: 2.5em !important;}” el_class=”thebandits”] \n\nFrancesca Bertazzo Hart\nvocals\nFrancesco Carta\npiano\nGiovanna Denaro\nvocals and ballet\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1788354602875{margin-top: 2.5em !important;}”] \n\n\nFor the fourth event of the  Women For Freedom in Jazz festival\, on Wednesday\, September 9 at 7 PM\, another undisputed talent of international jazz\, Francesca Bertazzo Hart\, will perform at Hotel Aquarius in Venice with a musical project inspired by Emily Dickinson—a journey into the inner universe of one of the most mysterious voices in American literature through music\, words\, and dance.\nJoining Francesca on stage are musician Francesco Carta\, producer of the show\, and narrator (as well as dancer) Giovanna Denaro. Giovanna’s narration guides the audience through the pivotal stages of Emily’s life and poetry: childhood\, the discovery of writing\, her friendship with Susan Gilbert\, her love for words and silence\, and her voluntary withdrawal from the world. In the finale\, the narrator’s body transforms through dance\, becoming pure visual poetry.\nOriginal songs and vocal improvisations by Francesca\, accompanied by guitar and piano\, weave together the lyrical dimension of poetry and music\, creating a dialogue between voice and word. The piano played by Francesco\, who also composed the score\, guides the story and heightens its emotional intensity: a soundscape evoking the poet’s moods\, at times transforming into the voices of the men who crossed her path.\nA singer and guitarist active on the national and international jazz scene for thirty years\, Francesca Bertazzo Hart\, Chair of Jazz Vocal Performance at the Steffani Conservatory in Castelfranco Veneto\, is admired in Italy and abroad for effortlessly balancing “brilliant guitar technique and a warm\, enveloping voice that delivers remarkable\, never self-referential scat solos” (F. Favano)\, as well as for her versatility\, mastery of improvisation\, and compositional talent.\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1788354346447{margin-top: 2.5em !important;}”] \n\n\n\nWOMEN FOR FREEDOM IN JAZZ – 10th EDITION\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1788354621627{margin-top: 2.5em !important;}”] \n\nMusical projects inspired by authors and poets\, both classic and contemporary\, form the common thread running through the Women For Freedom in Jazz 2026 festival\, bringing 5 monthly Wednesday concerts to the Aquarius.\nFinal event of the 10th edition: \n\n\n\nOctober 7 | Namritha Nori and Alba Nabulsi\nThe final performance features Italian-Indian musician Namritha Nori alongside Italian-Palestinian journalist and writer Alba Nabulsi. They were the leading figures in the 1930s behind the birth and spread of jazz manouche\, one of the most original encounters between European musical tradition and American jazz. \nJazz standards are reinterpreted through a highly distinctive line-up and musical language: without drums\, with the guitar sustaining the rhythm through the characteristic la pompe technique\, and with the violin and voice taking center stage in improvisation and musical dialogue. A warm\, driving\, and instantly recognizable sound\, capable of alternating refined swing atmospheres with moments of high energy. \n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1787917725601{margin-top: 2.5em !important;}”] \n\nAfter living in Paris for thirty years\, Sara Longo has breathed and actively lived the French jazz scene\, performing at major festivals dedicated to jazz manouche. Upon returning to Venice\, she met guitarist Lino Brotto and violinist Mattia Martorano\, and together with double bassist Alvise Seggi\, they brought this project to life. \nThe quartet offers a personal reinterpretation of the gypsy jazz style\, where faithfulness to tradition leaves room for the freedom of improvisation\, interplay\, and a contagious musical irony. The result is a dynamic and engaging concert\, suspended between 1930s Paris\, American swing\, and contemporary musical sensibility. \nMusic to listen to\, to experience\, and—why not—to dance to. \nhttps://www.saralongosings.com/ \n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1765881108566{margin-top: 2.5em !important;}”] \n\n\n\nAdmission subject to availability. She trained under Masters Gianfranco Bottino and Francesco Audino\, as well as Ty LeBlanc\, Franca Pullia\, Laura Copiello\, Federica Baccaglini\, and Silvia Girotto. Their sound encompasses American music\, blues\, country\, and ballads. \n\nThe repertoire includes tracks from MY FRIEND RY\, a tribute to the great American musician Ry Cooder\, as well as from their recent release BLACK & WHITE. Both albums are by SirJoe Polito and published by Gutenberg by Caligola Records. The performance also features classics by David Crosby\, Stephen Stills\, Jorma Kaukonen\, Tom Waits\, and John Hiatt\, among others.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1772457686269{margin-top: 2.5em !important;}”] \n \n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1772526877738{margin-top: 2.5em !important;}”]Born in 1960\, Sergio Polito\, stage name SirJoe\, began playing the guitar at the age of thirteen. \nHe developed a deep knowledge of pivotal figures in American music\, primarily from the West Coast: Crosby\, Stills\, Nash & Young\, Jackson Browne\, the Eagles\, James Taylor\, Joni Mitchell\, and Bob Dylan. His influences expanded to include Elvis\, Jorma Kaukonen\, and the foundational country-blues of Mississippi John Hurt\, Reverend Gary Davis\, and Blind Blake. His journey continued through rock icons like Bruce Springsteen\, Bob Seger\, Willy DeVille\, and Tom Waits\, eventually reaching the artist he considers the pinnacle: Ry Cooder (who also introduced him to another pillar of American music\, John Hiatt). \nA self-taught musician\, SirJoe refined his fingerpicking style and began performing at eighteen. In the early 1980s\, he played in schools\, public squares\, and local music venues. In 1986\, he co-founded an electric band that would later become B-WOPS\, one of the most significant musical entities in the Venice area. Still active after forty years\, the group’s sound blends rhythm & blues\, rock’n’roll\, soul\, country\, blues\, and gospel. With B-WOPS\, he released two CDs under the Club De Musique label: Rhythm’n’rollin (1993)\, featuring guests such as Paul Millns\, Andy J. Forest\, and Tolo Marton; and Italian Boots (1998). His career includes several compilations\, a performance at the 2004 Pistoia Blues Festival\, and appearances on Red Ronnie’s television show Roxy Bar\, alongside countless concerts across Northern Italy and Switzerland. \nDespite his success with electric bands\, SirJoe’s passion for acoustic music remained. This led him to launch a solo career as SirJoe Polito and form the Acoustic and Electric Band\, the core ensemble behind MY FRIEND RY\, a tribute album to the music of Ry Cooder. Released in December 2021 by Gutenberg Music by Caligola Records\, the CD features twelve rearranged tracks from the Santa Monica guitarist’s discography. The project was inspired by Aldo Pedron\, the esteemed journalist and co-founder of magazines such as Il Mucchio Selvaggio and Il Buscadero. \nThe album involved exceptional talents\, including Jeff Pevar\, Paul Millns\, Butch Coulter\, Inger Nova Jorgensen\, and many others\, with sound engineering by Martino Favalli and Gigi Campalto. Historic tracks like “Crazy ‘bout an automobile” and “Little Sister” were reborn in fresh\, distinct versions. \nIn July 2025\, SirJoe’s latest dream was realized with the release of BLACK & WHITE (Gutenberg by Caligola Records). This latest work consists largely of original material\, alongside three rearranged tracks by Stephen Stills\, David Crosby\, and Tom Waits. Recorded by Pierluigi “Gigi” Campalto and artistically produced by Alberto Boscolo Agostini and SirJoe himself\, the album features elite guests such as Carlo De Bei\, Veronica Sbergia\, and Max De Bernardi\, marking a significant new chapter in SirJoe Polito’s career.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1772457217646{margin-top: 2.5em !important;}”] \n \n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1772522045464{margin-top: 2.5em !important;}”]Ingresso fino a esaurimento posti. SUMMARY:Omaggio a Miles Davis
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1772789283536{margin-top: 2.5em !important;}”] \n\nA Tribute to Miles Davis \n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1772789064661{margin-top: 2.5em !important;}” el_class=”thebandits”] \n\nDavid Boato\ntrumpet and flugelhorn\nMatteo Alfonso\npiano\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1772794251292{margin-top: 2.5em !important;}”] \n\nIf jazz were a color\, it would be Kind of Blue. This concert celebrates the man who did more than just play the trumpet; he redrew the very landscape of modern music: Miles Davis. \nIn the absence of a rhythm section\, the music is stripped bare. Only the essence remains. The trumpet reclaims that intimate\, occasionally searing lyricism of Miles\, while the piano constructs the harmonic architecture—the ‘white space’ in which notes are permitted to float. \nBoato and Alfonso engage in a tight\, visceral dialogue\, a play of silences and ‘unplayed notes\,’ exactly as the Maestro taught. \nThe program is not a mere chronology\, but a journey through Miles’s shifting interior states: from the melancholic\, dreamlike ballads of ‘Round Midnight to the revolutionary modal approach of So What. \nAs Miles famously said: \nDon’t play what’s there; play what’s not there. \n\n[/vc_column_text][dfd_spacer screen_wide_spacer_size=”20″ screen_normal_resolution=”1024″ screen_tablet_resolution=”800″ screen_mobile_resolution=”480″][vc_raw_html From Sephardic and Greek-Anatolian music to Kurdish melodies and original compositions\, Valentina and Namritha take us on a journey through the colors\, languages\, and traditions of this land\, as well as their own personal cultural roots spanning Istanbul\, Berlin\, and Venice. \n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1771935701080{margin-top: 2.5em !important;}”]Valentina Bellanova trained as a recorder player at the “Luigi Cherubini” Conservatory in Florence before continuing her studies in Germany at the Hochschule für Musik\, Theater und Medien in Hannover\, where she earned a diploma in Early Music and Solo Performance. She later obtained a Master’s in Medieval Music from the Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen. \nShe has deepened her knowledge of modal repertoire and Near Eastern traditions by studying the ney under the guidance of Ömer Erdoğdular and Kudsi Erguner; she performs on both Turkish and Arabic ney. Her expertise also extends to traditional wind instruments such as the bagpipes and ciaramella within Mediterranean musical traditions. \nValentina has performed as a soloist in prestigious international venues and festivals\, including the Berlin Philharmonie\, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg\, the Cologne Philharmonie\, and the Komische Oper Berlin. She frequently collaborates with transcultural Arabic and Early Music ensembles such as the Syriab Ensemble\, Ensemble Ruhr\, Musica Antiqua Latina\, and the Pera Ensemble.
