Massimiliano Sartori and Daniel John Martin reunite for a series of concerts paying homage to the celebrated guitarist Django Reinhardt (1910-1953) and violinist Stéphane Grappelli (1908-1997).
These two figures were characterized by a unique creative understanding and, in 1930s Paris, significantly contributed to shaping jazz in Europe.

The quintet formation is inspired by the renowned “Quintette du Hot Club de France” with a particular focus on the authentic sounds of Hot Jazz and Parisian Swing from the 1930s and 1940s.

DJM is celebrated as a leading figure in “Gypsy jazz,” a genre inspired by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli’s work in the 1930s. His style is rooted in this rich tradition, yet he infuses it with his own approach, blending classical technique with vibrant improvisational jazz. Daniel John’s compositions and improvisations reflect a romantic influence with intense musicality and technical prowess. This unique blend of classical and jazz elements has become DJM’s hallmark, making him a standout performer in Paris and beyond.

Daniel John Martin has led and collaborated in several ensembles, including the DJM-Romane Quartet, which showcases his skill in blending jazz standards with improvisational flair. He was a regular performer at “Aux Petits Joueurs” in Paris, where he established a dedicated following and shared the stage with top players like Angelo Debarre, Romane, the Ferré brothers, Adrien Moignard… Additionally, DJM has contributed to jazz events worldwide, including the annual Django in June festival in the United States, Ozmanouche in Australia etc.

From a young age he developed, thanks to his father, a passion for the music of Django Reinhardt which led him to explore the world of gypsy guitar. He initially collaborated with several musicians from the Venetian scene before moving to Brussels and Paris where he lived for several years gaining the opportunity to further enhance his understanding of Gypsy jazz music.

Based in Italy, he currently travels to connect and study with renowned manouche guitarists such as Fapy Lafertin, Tcha Limberger e Tchavolo Schmitt as a crucial step in deepening Django Reinhardt’s distinctive sound and style. He is actively involved in music festivals and projects dedicated to the authentic sound of 1930s-40s musette, swing, and hot jazz.
