The “…jazz songbook” project is a contemporary reimagining of the jazz canon, seamlessly blending the core essence of swing with the sensibilities and languages of the modern European scene.

Central to this performance is the artistic synergy between Jan Grinbert and Venetian pianist Marco Ponchiroli. Their intense, ongoing collaboration has culminated in the project “Distances“, a shared exploration of new timbral and formal possibilities within contemporary jazz.

The quartet is completed by Alvise Seggi on double bass and Raul Catalano on drums.

This high-profile rhythm section provides the foundational pulse for the ensemble, ensuring a performance marked by both rhythmic precision and creative interplay.

A jazz saxophonist acclaimed for his expressive intensity and an improvisational style defined by freedom and meticulous research. Originally from Latvia and currently based in Germany, Grinbert is a regular fixture in prominent projects and festivals across the European jazz landscape. His musical language sits at the crossroads of classical jazz tradition, bebop, and the latest currents of the contemporary scene. In his playing, he places particular emphasis on melodic construction, a dynamic and incisive sense of swing, and the dialogue of the ensemble—viewed as a space for vibrant, constant interaction between musicians.

An eclectic Venetian pianist who graduated with honors from the “Benedetto Marcello” Conservatory. His versatile background spans blues, pop, and reggae, while his jazz career includes collaborations with luminaries like Flavio Boltro, Fabrizio Bosso, and John Riley. His partnership with Grinbert represents a sophisticated evolution of his artistic path, blending deep harmonic knowledge with a shared vision for contemporary exploration.
