A tribute to a generation of women too often silenced

Through a mosaic of ten interlaced stories spanning from the 1950s to the present, the novel shatters domestic invisibility to reveal the everyday heroism of mothers who, born under the Franco dictatorship, fought for their children’s empowerment in a world that denied them their own. With a rhythmic, profoundly human prose, Ruiz Palà explores the transition from the regime’s gray tones to the colors of rediscovered freedom. Winner of the Sant Jordi Prize, Our Mothers is an act of poetic justice: a choral novel that transforms individual biography into a powerful manifesto of dignity and sisterhood.

Born in Sabadell in 1975, Gemma Riuz Pala’ joined Televisió de Catalunya in 1997, specializing in cultural journalism. She made her literary debut in 2016 with the bestseller Argelagues, which follows the lives of three women working in the textile industry during the Spanish Civil War. In 2020, she published her second novel, Wenling, and in 2022, she was awarded the prestigious Sant Jordi Prize for Les nostres mares (Our Mothers).
