What is the shape of a life well-lived?

Walter Hunt arrives in New York like so many others: in search of fortune. Hailing from a remote province, he carries only a small suitcase and a flax-spinning machine—the first patent in what would become a prolific career as an inventor. Thus begins the journey of a brilliant man who was always 'out of time,' the creator of objects that would revolutionize the daily lives of millions.

"What is a safety pin for? It protects, joins, secures, holds things together. I discovered that in Spanish, it is called 'El imperdible.' The unmissable—the unlosable. The perfect object for a man who went down in history for the opportunities he lost."
