Omaggio a Miles Davis

- David Boato
trumpet and flugelhorn - Matteo Alfonso
piano
If jazz were a color, it would be Kind of Blue. This concert celebrates the man who did more than just play the trumpet; he redrew the very landscape of modern music: Miles Davis.
In the absence of a rhythm section, the music is stripped bare. Only the essence remains. The trumpet reclaims that intimate, occasionally searing lyricism of Miles, while the piano constructs the harmonic architecture—the ‘white space’ in which notes are permitted to float.
Boato and Alfonso engage in a tight, visceral dialogue, a play of silences and ‘unplayed notes,’ exactly as the Maestro taught.
The program is not a mere chronology, but a journey through Miles’s shifting interior states: from the melancholic, dreamlike ballads of ‘Round Midnight to the revolutionary modal approach of So What.
As Miles famously said:
Don’t play what’s there; play what’s not there.
