SARA LONGO 4tet – GOES GYPSY!

A journey into the heart of jazz manouche, blending swing, virtuosity, improvisation, and that particular lightness that has made this style unique and unmistakable.

SARA LONGO 4tet – GOES GYPSY! pays tribute to two fundamental figures in the history of European jazz: Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. They were the leading figures in the 1930s behind the birth and spread of jazz manouche, one of the most original encounters between European musical tradition and American jazz.

Jazz standards are reinterpreted through a highly distinctive line-up and musical language: without drums, with the guitar sustaining the rhythm through the characteristic la pompe technique, and with the violin and voice taking center stage in improvisation and musical dialogue. A warm, driving, and instantly recognizable sound, capable of alternating refined swing atmospheres with moments of high energy.

After living in Paris for thirty years, Sara Longo has breathed and actively lived the French jazz scene, performing at major festivals dedicated to jazz manouche. Upon returning to Venice, she met guitarist Lino Brotto and violinist Mattia Martorano, and together with double bassist Alvise Seggi, they brought this project to life.

The quartet offers a personal reinterpretation of the gypsy jazz style, where faithfulness to tradition leaves room for the freedom of improvisation, interplay, and a contagious musical irony. The result is a dynamic and engaging concert, suspended between 1930s Paris, American swing, and contemporary musical sensibility.
