Elena Camerin: A Tribute to Italo Calvino
June 17 @ 19:00 - 20:30
Italo Calvino as you’ve never… heard him before.
A brand-new concert featuring the talented jazz vocalist Elena Camerin will open the 10th edition of the Women For Freedom in Jazz festival on Wednesday, June 17, at 7 PM at Hotel Aquarius in Venice.
The performance will feature original music inspired by Le cosmicomiche (Cosmicomics), Il barone rampante (The Baron in the Trees), and Lezioni americane (Six Memos for the Next Millennium), as well as other texts by Calvino and various poets.
Joining her on this musical and literary journey is the esteemed Venetian composer and pianist Matteo Alfonso.
Born in Venice, Camerin has been living in the United States since 2008. She initially settled in New York City, where she immersed herself in the underground jazz scene, collaborating not only with musicians but also with actors, poets, dancers, and directors. She now resides in Colorado, where, in addition to teaching, she performs regularly with numerous musicians and artists throughout the Denver metropolitan area.
Her musical journey began with piano studies, later expanding to jazz vocals under Carla Marcotulli and opera with Francesca Scaini. She performed as a featured soloist with the Venice Gospel Ensemble, recording several albums and appearing in theaters and on national television broadcasts, and has also worked as a backing vocalist for numerous renowned artists in the Italian music scene. Her extensive experience in Italy and abroad has shaped a truly unique approach to both her vocal technique and her diverse repertoire, which spans from jazz and Brazilian music to her own original compositions.
Admission subject to availability. Mandatory drink: €15.00
