The second appointment with the Women For Freedom in Jazz festival features an intimate and moving tribute to Antonio Carlos Ferreira de Brito, known artistically as Cacaso (1944–1987).
The performance is curated by the engaging and sensitive Bahian singer (and Venetian by adoption) Rosa Emilia Dias, accompanied on the piano by maestro Marco Ponchiroli.
Rediscovering Cacaso
Through intense songs like “Álbum de Retratos” and witty, ironic tracks like “Perfume de cebola“, the concert aims to rediscover the artistic legacy of one of the most versatile, fascinating, and courageous figures of 20th-century Brazilian culture.
Cacaso was a poet, literary critic, philosophy professor, and intellectual who passed away at a very young age. He famously left his academic career behind to passionately dedicate himself to popular Brazilian music, collaborating with legendary names such as: Edu Lobo, Tom Jobim, Sueli Costa, Cláudio Nucci, Nelson Angelo, Joyce, Sivuca.
An accomplished performer and songwriter, Rosa Emilia Dias has released ten albums across Brazil, Italy, and Japan.
Her major career highlights include: “Cacaso – Música e Poesia” (2009): A project created for the Bank of Brazil (CCBB) that toured for two months between Rio de Janeiro and Brasília; “100 Anni di Jorge Amado” (100 Years of Jorge Amado) and “L’Arca di Noè – musica brasiliana per bambini” (Noah’s Ark – Brazilian music for children) for the Centro Candiani in Mestre.
She has worked as a backing vocalist with Fabrizio de André, Pitura Freska, and numerous other national and international artists.
In 2022, she published her first book of poems, “Drops“, released in Brazil by Editora 7 Letras.
Admission subject to availability. Mandatory drink: €15.00
